CKS Warta won the Illinois State Cup on Saturday when they defeated longtime NSL adversary Gazelle SC 3:1 at Wheeling HS.
Daniel Damian bagged a hat trick to lead the way, as Warta lifted the trophy for the first time in club history. Damian broke a scoreless deadlock early in the second half and Warta made that lead stand up as normal time was running out. Damian made it 2:0 at 92+ minutes. Gazelle made things interesting when they drew to within 2:1 moments later, but Damian locked up the title with his third goal, coming deep in stoppage time.
The State Cup championship trophy brings special meaning to Warta, as it is named after Chicago soccer legend Tony Dallas, who coached Warta for many years.
